Exploring The Area

The South West Coastal Path – St Agnes to Porthtowan

The stretch between St Agnes and Portreath, a mere seven miles, is characterised by bizarre place names – Tubby’s Head, Tobban Horse, Sheep Rock – and picturesque remnants of the mining industry. The path showcases spectacular ocean views and many mine chimneys. You will pass by several beaches where you can stop for lunch and even go for a swim.

The Wheal Coates Mine

The Wheal Coates mine opened in 1802 and was worked until its closure in 1889. It was reopened for a short period between 1911 and 1913 when it was finally closed.
The site is most notable for its three engine houses and in particular the iconic Towanroath Shaft engine house, which is now a Grade II listed building. The whole site is in the care of the National Trust (as is the adjacent Chapel Porth beach).

Mount Hawke Skate Park

Mount Hawke is the Southwest’s biggest indoor skatepark with its 24,000 sq ft purpose built warehouse featuring sections suitable for all abilities. World class ramps and bowls for skateboard, bmx and scooters.

Along with the wooden ramps inside there is now an outdoor street-style concrete park and a pump track.
