Discover
Discover the beauty of our local Blue Flag award winning beach in a National area of Outstanding Beauty surrounded by dunes, golden sands and spectacular cliffs. Located to the north of Porthtowan at Chapel Porth is the Towan Roath engine house, a World famous traditional Cornish mine poised above the cliffs of Wheal Coates.
Safeshore
Porthtowan beach is patrolled by RNLI Lifeguards starting from Easter School Holidays, weekends following and then daily from end of April to the end of September. Making it a safe beach for your family to enjoy surfing, swimming and our rock pools.
Explore
Look for crabs and star fish in the numerous rock pools and caves. Swim in our very own sea water Mermaid Pool nested in the rocks. Walk to Chapel Porth at spring low tide for a world famous Hedgehog at the Chapel Porth beach cafe.

The South West Coastal Path – St Agnes to Porthtowan
The stretch between St Agnes and Portreath, a mere seven miles, is characterised by bizarre place names – Tubby’s Head, Tobban Horse, Sheep Rock – and picturesque remnants of the mining industry.The path showcases spectacular ocean views and many mine chimneys. You will pass by several beaches where you can stop for lunch and even go for a swim.
The Wheal Coates Mine
The site is most notable for its three engine houses and in particular the iconic Towanroath Shaft engine house, which is now a Grade II listed building. The whole site is in the care of the National Trust (as is the adjacent Chapel Porth beach).
Mount Hawke Skate Park
Along with the wooden ramps inside there is now an outdoor street-style concrete park and a pump track.

The Track
The Track is a safe and exciting place to ride for all ages and abilities. They provide a fun, friendly, socially inclusive riding environment, with their experienced, trained staff adding to a great atmosphere. Enjoy miles of jumps and trails for all ages.
The Mineral Tramways
Porthtowan, located a mere 5 minutes away from the prosperous mining region of Cornwall’s central mining district, enjoys access to a 37.5-mile (60km) network of versatile trails. Numerous trails closely trace the historical tramway and railway routes that were formerly employed to transport ore and essential supplies between the tin and copper mines in the vicinity and ports like Devoran and Portreath.
